Aboitiz Power wins bid for Tiwi-Makban geothermal complex

AP Renewables, Inc. (APRI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AP), won the bid Wednesday (July 30) for the 747-megawatt (MW) Tiwi-Makban geothermal power facilities. The complex is composed of the 289-MW Tiwi plants in Albay and the 458-MW Makban facilities in Laguna and Batangas. The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) had bid out the two power assets as one package.

Aboitiz Power Corporation (AP) subsidiary Redondo Peninsula Energy, Inc. has issued a letter of award to Formosa Heavy Industries to supply the boiler, steam turbine, generator and related services to be used for the construction of a 300-megawatt coal-fired power plant in the Redondo Peninsula at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The company will be required to make a 5% down payment of approximately US$10 million on or before April 30, 2008.

Aboitiz Power Corporation, a company listed in the Philippine Stock Exchange engaged in power generation and distribution, buys a 34 percent share from Evonik Industries AG in its Philippines special purpose company STEAG State Power Inc. The transaction closed November 15, 2007. Evonik remains the majority shareholder of STEAG State Power Inc. with its indirectly held 55 percent share. Another 11 percent share in the company is held by the local project partner State Investment Trust Inc.
